COL.D.D. Workshops in Croatia – Promoting Mental Health Through Cold Water Exposure

Between January and March 2025, Plivački klub Zagreb successfully organized 10 local workshops as part of the COL.D.D. – Cold Water Swimming for the Prevention of Dementia and Depression project.

The workshops gathered adults aged 50+ and professionals working in health and sport sectors, introducing them to the benefits of controlled cold-water exposurebreathwork, and mindfulness techniques.

Each session combined theory and practice — from breathing preparation and safety guidance to gradual cold-water immersion exercises. Participants reported improved mood, reduced stress levels, and increased resilience after completing the training cycle.

These activities represent an essential step in testing the COL.D.D. methodology developed by the international consortium, aiming to promote non-pharmaceutical and natural methods for preventing depression and dementia in older adults.

The workshops were held under safe conditions, following EU health and safety standards, and supported by local health professionals and the City of Zagreb.
